My only wish

By Jessica on Jan 2, 2010 | In Poems | Send feedback »

I wish to go back to times of old.
When things were not bought with silver and gold.
But traded for other practical things,
Like food or blankets, useful things.

When instead of riding in fancy cars,
People rode horses that went twice as far.
They didn't have expensive clothes,
But coverings made from deer or buffaloes.

I wish we all could live that way.
Leave everything behind and go back to the good old days.
Life wouldn't revolve around how much money we had.
We would live peacefully and borrow from the land.

But we don't have to go back in time.
Just sit back and listen to this rhyme.
We could live that way, here and now,
Just sit still and i'll tell you how.

Turn off that tv and get off that chair.
Go outside and breathe the fresh air.
Don't ever worry about having the best.
Just relax, this isn't a test.
You'll have a better, worry-free day
If you just love your family, the indian way.

On the front porch with you

By Jessica on Jan 2, 2010 | In Songs | Send feedback »

Three creaky wooden stairs, those squeaky rockin' chairs.
The wel worn welcome mat, the lattice vines,
The happy times.

All I wanna do, when the day is through,
I linger here on the front porch with you.
From the wicker swing, while the night birds sing,
We'll watch the fireflies sparkin'
Do some sparkin' too.

How the hours fly, as the moon drifts by.
How swwet the air as we stare at the sky.
Oh how I love to linger here like this,
Hold your hand and steal a kiss or two,
On the front porch with you.

I saw the sun and thought of you.
The wind was your soft touch.
The sweet smell of morning dew
Often seems too much.

As often as I try, I cannot forget,
The terror of that awful night.
How quickly, silently, you went
And took with you the light.

Heart We Will Forget Him

By Jessica on Jul 18, 2008 | In Poems | Send feedback »

Heart we will forget him!
You and I, tonight!
You may forget the warmth he gave-
I will forget the light!

When you have done, pray tell me,
That I may straight begin!
Haste! Lest while your lagging,
I remember him!

Emily Dickinson

Time

By Jessica on Jul 18, 2008 | In Poems | Send feedback »

The young grow old,
The seeds bloom in the forest around me.
The sun moves across the sky and the Earth spins.
The birds hatch eggs and the seasons change.
Time affects everything, it's the thing that helps us grow.

The world knows time as something evil,
That has turned against them,
Making them grow old, wrinkled, decayed.
They fear it, as they fear the wild beast.
I see time in everything around me.

The trees, the birds, the people I meet.
I do not see time as the world does.
Time is a never ceasing wonder that drives us, ever forward.
