For My Sister Emma on her wedding day

Every stitch is placed with care
A sense of gladness in the air
A mothers token, love untold
Life's new journey now unfolds.

By mother's hand, the dress is made
Her time and love she freely gave
A gift for her son's bride to be
Brilliant white, a sight to see.

Time has passed through endless days
The dress is yellowed now with age
Two generations, almost gone
The dresses time, again has come.

Dusted, altered, cleaned and pressed
Another dons the wedding dress
Worn by one when it was new
Her grandchild now will wear it too.

The scene is different, fresh and bright
Reflecting the brides vibrant light
And yet the story's still the same
Eternity, again is gained.

Another story starts today
Again the dress is put away
The story now forever sung
Of the wedding dress, by love begun.

So many words unpsoken
My hearts forever broken
But no one seems to see me
I don't seem to really exist, at all
No one to catch me when I fall.

I stumble over shadows
I hold my breath but I know
It doesn't really matter
Shards of my heart just scatter all around
Once love is lost, it's never found.

And silently I'm dying here inside
I'm trying to tell my heart to swallow my pride
And let your love in
And try to begin
To help myself to pull me through.

And now I lie in darkness here all alone
I'm trying just to make it all on my own
And trying to forgive
Myself and live
But I can't seem to find the words
To heal what has been hurt.

I try to overcome this
My soul just seems so restless
My heart still beats within me
But I can't seem to even feel that now
I need your love to show me how.

And silently I'm dying here inside
I'm trying to tell my heart to swallow my pride
And let your love in
And try to begin
To help myself to pull me through.

And now I lie in darkness here all alone
I'm trying just to make it all on my own
And trying to forgive
Myself and live
But I can't seem to find the words.

And without words you're healing my wounded heart
I look around and see the clouds start to part.

And suddenly you're bringing me back to life
You finally got my heart to swallow my pride
And let your love in
And trust me again
Just take my hand and pull me through.

Cause I don't wanna stay in darkness alone
I just can't seem to make it out on my own
Help me to forgive
Myself and live
Now only you can find the words
To heal what has been hurt.

Been hurting for so long and
Your love is bringing me back
You take my hand and lead me
You hold me close and shield me from the rain
I close my eyes, you call my name.

Wondering through to streets alone, all through my restless night
Searching for an answer, to ease my troubled mind
When something in me whispered, "Look up and see the glow."
And as I looked up at the heavens, a new star on me shone.

Bathed within that heav'nly, radiant light
I turned as I heard a baby cry.

And a melody was whisp'ring, all through the silent night
And a gentle voice was singing underneath that new stars light
And though I did not understand, and could not clearly see
My mind could not ignore my heart, as it burned inside of me.

I came upon a stable, with shepherds gathered 'round
Kneeling, bowed in reverance, awed, where that star shone down
The crowd before me parted, I saw the mother mild
And my spirit lept within me, as I gazed upon the child.

Mary softly smiles in the night
As his father sings a lullaby.

And a melody was whisp'ring all through the silent night
And his loving eyes were smiling, underneath that new stars light
The spirit strove within me, as it showed me to my knees
My mind could not ignore my heart, as it burned inside of me.

And though I stray and stumble, and struggle to do right
The melody's still playing, echoing throughout my life.

It's a melody that whispers all through the silent night
And a tender voice keeps singing, underneath that new stars light
And the voice of God reminds me, and brings me to my knees
And my mind shouts praises with my heart, as it burns inside of me.

And my mind shouts praises with my heart, as it burns inside of me.

We talk about our heroes,
Who fight for God and home.
We speak of their great courage,
And the strength to stand alone.

Defenders great and scholars all,
They strive against the foe.
Their honor and brave sacrifice
Is more than we will know.

And yet the greatest heroes
Are unknown and overlooked.
These unsung warriors give their all
And yet aren’t found in books.

Their deeds and noble sacrifice
Aren’t told about in song.
Yet still they slay the dragons,
And right the every wrong.

They are knights in shining armor,
Brave princes and great kings.
Though they wear no crown or shining robes,
Before them, monsters flee.

They are wise in every subject
And can change before your eyes.
They switch at once from man to horse,
Then launch you to the skies.

They’re the strongest men you’ll ever know,
Yet gentle as can be.
They’ll pick you up and dust you off
And say “How about round three?”

From birth to death they’ll stand by you,
No matter what the cost.
With patience born of endless love,
They lead you back when lost.

To give a name to such as these
Would be a daunting task.
Words can simply not describe
These men from first to last.

He’s firm, yet kind and loving,
The best friend you’ve ever had.
To the world, he has a thousand names.
But to me, he’s simply Dad.

Storm clouds gather and
The wind is rushing in.
Balanced on a ledge
That I don't understand.
I hear you whisper low
That you love me so.
You say my name,
Here comes the rain.

And the thunder splits the sky
The lightening blinds my eyes.
Teardrops falling from the stars
You take me in your arms.
Your love washing over me
I'm scared now,
Whisper soft and sweet
"You're not alone,
Never let you go."

I know it's just the fear
Of the great unknown
Telling me I'm lost
When I'm halfway home.
Reaching for your love
Despite my biggest fears
You call my name,
Here comes the rain.

And the thunder splits the sky
The lightening blinds my eyes.
Teardrops falling from the stars
You take me in your arms.
Your love washing over me
I'm scared now,
Whisper soft and sweet
"You're not alone,
Never let you go."

Scared to believe
All that I need
Say you love me!

Now when thunder splits the sky
I'm alright!
Cause I know you will take my hand
And hold me tight.
And when rain is falling down
I'm smiling
Lost but now I'm found
I love you so!
With you I am home.

With you, I'm not afraid anymore.

At the very moment of your birth
I'm sure the angels in heaven rejoiced
For such a special child of God
Could only be His choiced.

Through trial and tribulation
You've held your head up high
You soldiered through and stood your ground
And never failed to try.

You've raised five children, each unique
With patience and with love
Through lifes trial, you taught us strength
And faith in God above.

With every passing year
You've taught us something new
Love of family, strength of self
And to reach beyond our view.

You've encouraged and you've lifted
You taught us wrong from right
You've led by great example
So we may follow in His light.

Though life has not been easy
You've handled it with grace
As a mother, you've no equal
As a wife, you lead the race.

You've magnified each calling
And done more than what was asked
You've gone above and far beyond
When completing every task.

You taught us each endurance
As through life we make our way
You're always there with counsel
And a hug to brighten days.

We'll lean on you for all our lives
Your babies we'll always be
We'll teach our children as you taught us
A family eternally.

So fear not for your children
Though we may travel far away
Home is where our mother is
And there our hearts will stay.

A spirit full of yearning
A heart full of pain
A mind that's ever learning
To rise and rise again.

To see the lesson in the trial
To find the blessing hidden within
To reach the end of every mile
And endlessly begin again.

If only for one moment
My soul unchained and free
Had felt that God's atonement
Released the chains on me.

Oh then I'd feel the weight be lifted
No longer drowning be
My everlasting soul be gifted
With the blessings of eternity.
